Book #3: Elementals Series

My Rating: 5/5 stars
My Review:

I’ve been a fan of this series from the very beginning and I’ve been waiting for that one book that just fired me up and allowed me reach the coveted 5-star review. Head of Medusa did just that!!!

The book opens with a confident group of kids fresh off their last ultimately successful fight. Their powers are evolving, their control is getting better every day, and their confidence is at an all-time high. Unfortunately, they have yet to close the portal to hell and know their next mission is likely right around the corner. Indeed, it is and the next mission isn’t going to be easy. In fact, this new mission is arguably even more dangerous than their last and they lost a team member during that battle.

Their current challenge has the team travelling to Antarctica where they must retrieve a mythical sword with the ability to kill even the un-killable. As if the challenge of Antarctica weren’t enough, the sword is encased in ice and guarded by a minor goddess who takes her job quite seriously. In fact, if the team fails to take the sword after three attempts, they ate bound to the site for seven years of labor. Once the team retrieves the sword, the fun really begins as they travel to California to either enlist Medusa’s help or take her head by force. With that being accomplished, the team must then stop Typhon, one of the scariest and deadliest of the big bads to have ever roamed the Earth. If Typhon is allowed to regain his full strength and power, the world’s population is in danger. So, no pressure 

From the moment they portal into Antarctica to the very last page, the team is set upon from every side. Nothing goes according to plan, they piss off nearly everyone they encounter, and to add insult to injury someone from within is working against them. Loyalties are tested just as aggressively as their skills and when all is said and done nothing is going to be as the team thought it would be. In fact, by the bitter end, the team is going to but a shadow of what they once were.

The Bottom Line: From start to finish this book pushed the pace and really upped the level of the overall series. Though I would like to see a bit more evolution in the characters on a personal level, the group has shown significant evolution, as has the overall plot. As the team gets stronger, their tasks and challenges are also getting significantly more difficult. There is very little down time in this read which makes it a very quick and entertaining read. If you were at all questioning the overall awesomeness of this series, The Head of Medusa will lay all those questions to rest and renew your interest in the Elementals.

Elementals 3 The Head of Medusa eBook Michelle Madow Reviews

Such a fantastic series. Great characters, driven plot and cleverly written!!
Such a mix of old lore and new stories! Love the refresher course! That ending, though... sheesh! *sprints to purchase #4*
Was a tad bit disappointed in the second book, but this one blew it out of the water. Loved the ending. Can't wait to read the next installment
The first two books in this series I purchased on audible they are some of the best books to keep my interest since Twilight (which I have repeatedly read) the third is just as interesting as the first two, this is not the first book I was unable to put down but it is the first that even sleep could pull me from if you enjoy magic, monsters, mystery, and fun then I highly recommend not just this book but the entire series.
I chose to give this book's rating due to awesome flow of events and emotions that are rarely seen I'm such a young writer. This fifty year old mythology story lover is enjoying the easy flow fro! One book to another almost as if they are
chapters not separate books
The exciting quest continues for the Elementals as they work together to prevent evil from destroying their world. Greek mythology is an integral part of the plot line and one of my favorite aspects of these books. The Golden Sword of Athena and the Head of Medusa are two items that must be acquired. Time grows short and all feel the urgency of the quest. This book is more intense and stirs several emotions. The romance between Blake and Nicole is stressed more heavily in this book, which is sweet but secondary to the plot, in my opinion. I read this book very rapidly and was eager to see what would happen in the next volume
This was a decent-but-below-expectations book in the series. I won’t pause from continuing on my journey with the Elementals, however the story felt rushed and implausible. The coming betrayal and betrayer was obvious and felt forced. It would be implausible for the most psychologically-mature people in the world to forgive and forget so easily, but the author would ask us to believe these high school teens to be so easily gullible, forgetful, and unsuspecting, that it made me angry when I first read how the story was playing out. The gods and monsters aspects of the book were more believable than this glaring flaw of suddenly-oblivious protagonists.
At only 260 pages on , it seemed (felt) to be the shortest book so far in the series - as though it was rushed to be written and published throughout the short story. Maybe there was just more going on and more to cover, but it FELT rushed compared to precious books. Where before there were details and expansion on new information, locations, characters and ideas/notions (such as the surge of new demigods), this book skimmed over them to churn through the salient points and only those points. It’s still a decent story... I was disappointed it didn’t maintain the quality of the first two novels in the series. Even without the added detail, it could have been much better with some adjustments to the main storyline to achieve the same outcomes and premise for the next book. It’s the first book in this series where I’ve felt disappointed in how we reached the destination.
This is still a great series, and I’m excited to start the next book. I hope the rest of the series returns to the quality and effort seen in the first two books.
Again, this was a decent story and quick read - it just wasn’t the great five-star experience the author delivered in the preceding two books in the series.
